How do you pronounce Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom? Nintendo answers!
At the recent Nintendo Direct we received, among other things, a brand new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. Incidentally, the title also got a brand new name with “Tears of the Kingdom”. However, fans were still unsure of the exact meaning of the new name. “Tears” could either stand for “tears” or for tearing something up.
How to pronounce Tears of the Kingdom
Both possibilities would definitely make sense, which is why Nintendo has now confirmed to Eurogamerthat the “tears” of the kingdom are actually tears. However, this revelation is not too surprising, after all, tears have been a part of the Zelda games for a long time. For example, in Zelda: Skyward Sword, players were allowed to find Holy Tears, in the Tears of the Kingdom trailer there are some elements in the mural that look like tears, and the Sheikah’s symbol is an eye with a tear.
However, just because the game’s name is actually tears doesn’t mean Nintendo didn’t think of the second meaning of the word as well. In the accompanying trailer, it appears as if some of Hyrule’s land masses have been ripped out of the ground, and a seemingly corrupt Hyrule Castle looms ominously above the ground.
There are already some theories as to why Hyrule is in this state, but we will probably only find out exactly what the Tears of the Kingdom are all about when The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (buy now €54.99) will be officially released for the Nintendo Switch on May 12th, 2023.
