Tekken 8 is built on Unreal Engine 5 and does not reuse any assets from Tekken 7

next fighting game Tekken-8 surprised everyone with their recent debut trailer, which, despite being short, was a promising teaser for what bandai namco says it will be a huge technical leap for the franchise. Running entirely on the real-time engine, the trailer showcased dynamic battle stage effects, highly detailed character models, and cinematic camera shots.

In a recent interview with IGNthe head of TekkenKatsuhiro Harada, provided more technical details about the game.

Interestingly, Harada confirms that Tekken 8, which is being built on Unreal Engine 5 (as opposed to Tekken 7, which UE4 used), it doesn’t reuse any of the assets (environments, items, character models, what have you) from its predecessor, and instead has been built entirely from scratch. Harada says that “all models and everything from Tekken 7 have been totally scrapped” for its upcoming sequel.

He went on to explain that although Tekken 7 had some effects similar to those presumed Tekken-8were in-game script parameters rather than actual dynamic effects.

Tekken 7 had something that looked similar; that when the character fell down or during battle, they seemed to be sweating or something. But that was just a parameter in the game in the way he showed himself. This is actually the first time we’ve taken rain and external effects and we’ve got that effect of rolling through the character models. And not only that, but when they hit the ground, their clothes get dirty as a result. So you can see the kind of results of the battle in the character models.”

Tekken-8 It is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. It doesn’t have a release date yet.
