Xbox Series X: Further acquisitions possible according to Phil Spencer

According to Phil Spencer, Xbox remains open to acquisitions to strengthen the company’s position within the gaming market.

in one CNBC interview During the Tokyo Game Show, Microsoft Head of Gaming Phil Spencer was asked if Xbox plans to put further acquisition efforts on hold until the Activision Blizzard acquisition is finalized.

Spencer replied that this would be a bad plan, especially in view of the strong competition from Tencent, Sony and Co. and that they do not intend to fall behind in the competition between the big gaming companies:

“It’s such a competitive market, I don’t think we can pause anything. Tencent is now the largest gaming company in the world and continues to invest heavily in gaming content and game developers. Sony is a bigger gaming company than we are today and they keep investing.”

“If you look at the investments we’ve made, it’s an extremely competitive market. We strive to be a major player here. We want to bring great content to our players and we will stay active, whether that’s by investing in our internal teams who are already making great games that people know and love, or by building new partnerships.”

“One of the things I love about coming here to Tokyo is the developers that I get to meet, the new partnerships we have with the likes of Kojima Productions and with some of our existing publishing partners and independents Talking to developers about games we want to create.”

“And when it comes to acquisition-related M&A activities, we are also active there. So our work never ends. It’s a competitive market and I want to make sure Xbox is at the forefront of innovation and competition.”
