Microsoft CEO is confident that they will approve the purchase of Activision

Microsoft Says Activision Blizzard Acquisition 'Moving Fast', GamersRD

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has said he is “very confident” the company’s planned acquisition of Activision Blizzard will gain regulatory approval.

The proposed $68.7 billion acquisition of the Call of Duty publisher would be the largest deal in the history of the games industry, handily surpassing the record $12.7 billion merger of Take-Two and Zynga completed earlier this year.

And the deal is currently under review by regulators concerned about antitrust issues at a time of growing consolidation in the gaming industry.

“Of course, any acquisition of this size will come under scrutiny, but we feel very, very confident that we will come through.” said Nadella to Bloomberg.

Last week, the UK Competition and Markets Authority said its investigation into the deal had officially been extended to a second phase due to a number of antitrust concerns.

In particular, the watchdog is concerned about the impact the deal could have on PlayStation’s ability to compete, given that the deal would see Microsoft gain ownership of the Call of Duty series.

Nadella told Bloomberg that Microsoft is the fourth or fifth largest player in the video game industry, with PlayStation maker Sony being the largest. “So if it’s about competition, let’s have competition,” said.
