Beta of Modern Warfare 2 on Steam had 110 thousand new players

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta is now underway and has been available to Xbox and PC users since September 22.

The Modern Warfare 2 beta saw a huge influx of players on Steam. Currently, the game has managed to reach nearly 110,000 concurrent players on Steam alone.

This boom is a result of the lack of appearance of the Call of Duty series as a whole for 5 years on Steam. Still, for a beta that’s currently only accessible to players who pre-ordered the game, this is a huge draw that Activision Blizzard/Microsoft probably won’t ignore.

The most accurate number according to the metrics of steam chart is 109,425 concurrent players. This same number has been included in the most played games on Steam. Currently, thanks to this spike, the game is above games like Warframe, Destiny 2, and ARK: Survival Evolved as one of the most played games on Steam by current gamers at the time of writing.

Of course, this is something players would have seen coming from a mile away. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was already one of Steam’s best sellers. As such, it was predictable that the game would become one of the most popular and crowded games during the closed beta for players who pre-ordered it.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will launch for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 8.
