Dark Souls 3: PC servers are offline again

The PC servers of Dark Souls 3 (from 19.00€ at buy) are offline again. After the online infrastructure of the action role-playing game went live again just four weeks ago, Steam players have to do without multiplayer functionality again.

Dark Souls 3 servers offline again

The developers at From Software announced via Twitter that they had identified a problem with the Steam servers. Accordingly, they were taken offline to fix the bugs.

The four-week online phase followed an eight-month server blackout of the entire Dark Souls series on PC. Back then, the servers were shut down due to a critical security issue that allowed hackers to take control of other players’ computers via an exploit.

The result of a security vulnerability

It should have been possible to transfer code to the systems of other users via this vulnerability. Not only could damage have been done to the system or malware could have been installed, logins, passwords and other data of the players could also have been tapped.

For months, From Software tried to get these problems under control and only brought the servers for Dark Souls 3 back online at the end of August 2022. Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 online services are still unavailable on PC. Console multiplayer was unaffected by the issue.
