AMD Ryzen 7000 is here: Overview of CPUs, RAM and AM5 motherboards
In the course of the afternoon the time had come: Today, Tuesday, September 27, 2022, the first four AMD processors with the new Zen 4 architecture came onto the market. Along with this, there are also new mainboards for the AM5 socket, which is also new, initially with two different chipsets: X670 and X670E. The cheaper chipset B650 will follow. In our news we offer you an overview of the four new Ryzen 7000 processors and the mainboards that are already available. DDR5 RAM is required for the new CPUs and mainboard – here too we take a look at the current prices. We also link you to some tests that have already been published for the new Ryzen CPUs with the code name “Raphael”.
First we come to the model overview and their technical data – all four models are made in 5 nm and have an IGP (internal graphics unit). Without anticipating too much, but: The prices, especially for mainboards and RAM, are likely to be a major stumbling block for the new AMD processors, at least in the release phase, as you will see in a moment.
AMD Ryzen 7000 – the new processors
These are the four new Ryzen CPUs – the prices refer to September 27, 5 p.m.:

- Ryzen 9 7950X, 16 cores, 32 threads at 4.5-5.7 GHz. TDP 170 watts. 64MB L3 cache. Price currently from 849 euros
We have also selected some test links for the Ryzen 7000 CPUs for you:
Mainboards and RAM for socket AM5
What about the motherboards? For starters, the socket AM5 is anything but a bargain. As of 5 p.m., about 20 models are listed, of which almost 10 are also available in at least one shop if you go to the PC Games Hardware Price Comparison checks. However, new available models are constantly being added – while we were writing our news, two other AM5 mainboards were listed as available in at least one online shop, which we have of course also included in our table below.
The cheapest model is currently the Gigabyte X670 Gaming X AX for a whopping 339 euros. The socket AM4 starts at 80 to 90 euros with mainboards, which are also suitable for overclocking, without overclocking you can strike for less than 60 euros. The currently available AM5 models are (as of 5 p.m.):
model | chipset | format | RAM slots | Price from |
---|---|---|---|---|
Gigabyte X670 Gaming X AX | X670 | ATX | 4 | 339 euros |
ASRock X670E PG Lightning | X670E | ATX | 4 | 359 euros |
MSI Pro X670-P WIFI | X670 | ATX | 4 | 379 euros |
Gigabyte X670E AORUS Master | X670E | E ATX | 4 | 529 euros |
Msi MPG X670E Carbon WIFI | X670E | ATX | 4 | 589 euros |
Asus ROG Crosshair X670E Gene | X670E | mATX | 2 | 719 euros |
Gigabyte X670E AORUS Ultra | X670E | E ATX | 4 | 799 euros |
Asius ROG Crosshair X670E Hero | X670E | E ATX | 4 | 829 euros |
Asus ROG Crosshair X670E Extreme | X670E | E ATX | 4 | 799 euros |
Last but not least: the required RAM. For the AM5 socket and the new Ryzen 7000 CPUs, DDR5 RAM with a clock rate of 5200Mhz and higher is provided, 16 gigabytes (each an 8GB bar) currently cost from around 100 euros. For 32 GB, 170 euros are due.
Overall, that’s 70 to 100 percent more than for DDR4 RAM. This, too, could become a burden for socket AM5 if prices don’t go down anytime soon. We will probably publish a big special on the new Ryzen 7000 CPUs with a price-performance analysis on Friday and go into the first possible price trends.
