Dual Universe: The SciFi MMO celebrates a big release – also on Steam
After a few days of shutting down the servers, the time has finally come. After more than eight years of development, Dual Universe is celebrating its big release. At 6:00 p.m. the servers of the SciFi MMO went online and players can build their spaceships and bases to their heart’s content.
When Novaquark came around the corner with the idea of Dual Universe many years ago and visited our local editorial office, we were rather skeptical. A relatively small team and an extremely ambitious project. The players should get more freedom in a persistent sandbox universe than in almost any other game. Not only free exploration would be possible, but also the spaceships and bases should not come from a shop, but be completely created by the players themselves thanks to modern voxel technology.
After eight years of development and more than two years of alpha and beta, the time has come. Dual Universe celebrates its official release. The servers went online at 6 p.m. and interested players can throw themselves into the endless expanses and create gigantic space stations or tiny spaceships together.
We already described what you can expect from Dual Universe in our preview some time ago.
Steam release and subscription model
In addition to its own launcher, Dual Universe is also available on Steam. In both cases you have to pay monthly for your access. Because in times of Free2Play and the often criticized in-game shops that go along with it, the Novaquark developers are deliberately opting for a classic subscription model.
Depending on the subscription model, the prices vary between €9.99 and €12.99 per month. In a persistent world, it is important to developers that the barrier to entry for trolls of any kind is maintained. There will be a free trial, but it will be separate from the main world.

Anyone interested in exploring the world of Dual Universe can either via the Novaquark official website do or via Steam. You can also find the free demo version on Valve’s popular platform, which you can use to get a taste of the gameplay before you actually spend any money.
