The Inquisitor: Medieval game announced via trailer and website
The German publisher Kalypso Media has an announcement trailer and lots of information about what is planned for the fourth quarter of 2023 Fantasy adventure game The Inquisitor presented. It will be released for PC, Xbox Series X and Playstation 5. We’ve embedded the trailer below, The game is already listed on Steam. In The Inquisitor, you play an inquisitor, as you might have guessed from the name. Put simply, you have the task of finding sinners and heretics in order to punish them.
However, The Inquisitor game is set in an alternate reality where Christianity took a completely different turn. The gloomy medieval game world is based on the fantasy novels by Poland Jacek Piekara, in which Jesus is gripped by anger at his crucifixion and starts a campaign of revenge against all unbelievers. So Christianity in this world is based on revenge and not on martyrdom with resurrection and forgiveness. The inquisitors in the game are therefore merciless soldiers of the revenge campaign in the Middle Ages, although the methods are similar to those of the inquisitors of our reality.
As the main character in the game, Mordimer Madderdin, you should investigate the town of Königstein and uncover secrets and sins, but you will encounter ever greater mysteries. Your faith will be called into question. According to the first information, the narrative is not linear, there is also – as you can see in the trailer – a ghostly world. This is the unworld where Mordimer can venture to learn more of the truth through torment. The game will also offer fights as well. This is the announcement trailer:
The developer studio is The Dust from Poland, which is certainly an advantage for understanding the novels, which are also Polish, and thus the implementation of the alternative reality. Technically, looking at the trailer, the characters aren’t necessarily at the highest level. But you have to consider the early status of the game – in terms of the attention to detail and the general atmosphere, our first impression is rather good. Kalypso Media is already known for games that are not AAA titles but offer a decent mix of price, technology and content, such as the Tropico series, Railway Empire or Disciples: Liberation – we’re curious to see what’s in store for us expected a year.
