iPhone 14: Apple doesn’t want ads on the Dynamic Island during live activity

New features on the iPhone that have been around on Android for a long time

In a post for developers on the new iPhone 14, Apple clarifies the live activities displayed on the lock screen and Dynamic Island via iOS 16.1. However, Apple encourages the app developers not to place any advertising in the live activities, since only relevant information should be displayed.

At the beginning of the month, Apple presented the new smartphone generation iPhone 14, which will be released with four different models. A little later, the global corporation from Cupertino delivered the new iOS 16 operating system, which is being updated successively. With the update to version 16.1, live activities will also be integrated, as Apple reports in an article for iOS developers on its website.

This feature aims to keep iPhone 14 users up-to-date and therefore displays up-to-date information from iOS apps so that the progress of events and tasks can be monitored. As examples, Apple cites an app for food delivery that shows the time remaining until arrival or a sports app that displays the current result of a game.

This information about the live activities is displayed on the lock screen and additionally on the Dynamic Island if the respective device provides support for it. On the Live Activities website Apple explains and illustrates how the overlays on the display are ultimately designed.

Dynamic Island and lock screen should remain ad-free during live activities

However, Apple also states some requirements for the developers of iOS apps, how they have to design the overlays of live activities. Among other things, it is important to the company that live activities are not misused to place ads or promotions.

“Live activity helps people stay informed about ongoing events and tasks, so it’s important to only display information related to those events and tasks,” Apple said of best practices for app developers.

Apple also wants Live Activity to not exceed eight hours and end immediately after the task or event ends. Confidential information should also not be displayed in a live activity if possible, since it is sometimes quite large on the display and could therefore be read by third parties. It remains to be seen whether the iOS developers will stick to the guidelines when the live activities find their way onto the iPhones with the arrival of iOS 16.1.
