Asrock AM5 mainboards: The drama about the stickers is resolved

from Valentin Sattler
The sticker drama with Asrock’s first AM5 mainboards has apparently been resolved: newer boards are delivered without the sticker, and there is an exchange program for earlier deliveries.

The launch of their own AM5 mainboards did not go entirely smoothly for Asrock. When starting an assembled system for the first time, booting sometimes took several minutes, depending on the memory expansion selected. Although the company announced a corresponding UEFI update at the beginning of September, this was not installed on all boards at the time of launch. For this reason, Asrock resorted to a workaround: on some early AM5 boards, a sticker was applied to the RAM slots that explained the long boot time.

Sticker drama and exchange service

With this sticker came the next problem. Although the users now knew that the long boot time was not related to a defect, the sticker could not be completely removed. Several reports surfaced online that the sticker leaves residue on the RAM slots. Customers had to laboriously remove these one by one without damaging the slots.

Fortunately, Asrock has now responded to this problem as well. Due to the already available UEFI update, the sticker is no longer necessary for the currently delivered mainboards, so users do not have to remove it either. The company has now also launched an exchange service for customers who have still received printed circuit boards with stickers.

Anyone who has received a motherboard with a sticker and feels unsettled by the residue can contact the dealer. This can then apparently take part in Asrock’s exchange program. Affected customers should finally get a replacement board that comes along without annoying residues on the main memory.
