Razer Announces Steam Deck Competitor Called Razer Edge 5G

Another Steam Deck competitor is entering the market with Razer, Verizon and Qualcomm this week announcing the Razer Edge 5G, a device aimed at playing games locally or via cloud technologies.

So far only an initial test of this device has been shown along with some limited details. The companies behind the new device have promised a more in-depth reveal to take place in a few weeks during Razer’s next big RazerCon event.

Our first look at this device can be seen below, courtesy of Verizon’s George Koroneos, who shared a video that offered only brief glimpses of the hardware in question. Some more details on the Verizon news site call it the “world’s first 5G gaming handheld” and they confirm that it uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 chipset, for those interested in the technology that powers this device.

As the fact that they included it in the name indicates, the 5G aspect of this device is bound to be one of its big selling points.

“This handheld Android gaming device will give you access to the games you love, whether they’re downloaded to play locally, streamed from your console, or accessed directly from the cloud, all on 5G Ultra Wideband”said the preview from Verizon.

For those who have kept up with the various handheld devices released in response to mainstream options like the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck, remember that Logitech G Cloud Gaming was revealed before this. That device, by comparison, requires a Wi-Fi connection with no 5G support offered.
