AM5 motherboard: EK and MSI introduce X670E Carbon with monoblock

from Maximilian Hohm
In cooperation with MSI, EK Waterblocks introduces the X670E Carbon EK X, which has a monoblock that also cools SSDs and power supply. The limited mainboard is not a bargain with a price of 850 euros, but it offers some special features that can make it interesting for users. Read more about this below.

Currently, willing users can choose between 26 different mainboard models for socket AM5 and equip them with the CPU and cooler of their choice in order to achieve maximum performance for the new system. Due to the high temperatures and the high TDP of the Ryzen 9 models, they are particularly suitable for water cooling, which means that higher clock rates and lower temperatures can be achieved. In cooperation with MSI, EK Waterblocks has now presented a limited mainboard with a monoblock, which fits in well visually and, above all, promises good cooling of the power supply.

The selected motherboard is an MSI MPG X670E Carbon from MSI’s Performance series, which doesn’t quite reach the level of an X670E Ace, but offers more RGB effects. Nevertheless, the model has the largest chipset that can supply both graphics cards and NVMe SSDs with PCI-E 5.0 and offers an 18+2+1-phase power supply that should also be able to cope with the Ryzen 9 models.

The Momentum² monoblock only fits on the X670E Carbon and has an integrated temperature sensor that can pass on the water temperatures and is therefore suitable for controlling the fans on the radiator. There is a flow meter in the block that can indicate any system problems and the monoblock cools the top two M.2 SSDs that seem to get warmer with each generation.

<span id=

The block itself is nickel plated copper while the top cover is acrylic. The RGB LEDs are hidden under anodized aluminum and can illuminate the rest of the block. They can be controlled directly via the RGB header on the mainboard and do not require any proprietary software. The EK Quantum MSI MPG X670E Carbon EK X can already be used in EK’s online shop be pre-ordered and costs 849.90 euros there. Meanwhile, the mainboard without monoblock costs in PCGH price comparison from 589 euros. It is not yet clear whether the monoblock will also be available for purchase separately.
