No PSVR 2 shortage: 2 million copies are probably available at the time of release

So sieht es also aus, das fertige VR-Headset für die PlayStation 5.

Sony aims to produce around two million PSVR 2 headsets by March 2023. So far they seem to be succeeding.

With PSVR 2, Sony has heralded the next generation of its own virtual reality headset. So far we do not know how expensive the device will be. But with spring 2023 we at least know when the PSVR 2 headset will appear. According to one Bloombergreport, Sony is optimistic about the sales figures for the release. Because the company produces a large number of items right at the start of sales.

Two million PSVR 2 headsets by March

According to the report, production of the PSVR 2 has already started in September 2022 and has not yet been faced with any supply chain problems.

For comparison: Less than a million copies of the PSVR predecessor were sold after around five months. It is uncertain what the current sales targets are, but with a starting figure of two million, Sony is showing how confident it is in the demand for the PSVR 2.

What does this mean for us? If the demand is similar or just a little higher than the first generation, there will be enough PSVR 2 headsets available at least for the release.

Will Sony achieve the goal? So far it sounds feasible that Sony can produce this large number by March 2023. However, it cannot be ruled out that production difficulties will arise in the coming months and that the set target will not be achieved. Supply bottlenecks in the recent past, such as with the PS5 or Nintendo Switch, have shown that special hardware components such as semiconductor chips can be in short supply.

To use the PSVR 2 headset, you need a PS5. At the start of sales and for months afterwards, it was difficult to get hold of one of the much sought-after consoles. Maybe Sony doesn’t want to repeat this mistake again and is therefore planning generously so that everyone who is interested is catered for.

When do you plan to buy the PSVR 2? Directly to the release, after the first tests or are you not interested in the headset yet?
