Cyberpunk 2077: CD Projekt confirms sequel, new IP and more Witcher projects

In a strategy update, CD Projekt Red announced several new projects for the future, including a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.

The successor is currently codenamed Orion: “Orion is a codename for our next cyberpunk game, which will evolve the cyberpunk franchise and further exploit the potential of this dark future universe,” it says.

What else is on the agenda?

In addition, of course, the Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 is on the program.

As for The Witcher, Polaris is the codename for the new project that has already been confirmed.

“Polaris is the codename for the next installment in The Witcher series that we recently announced is in pre-production. It’s the beginning of a new saga: we aim to release two more Witcher games after Polaris and with that create a new AAA RPG trilogy.”

The “Canis Majoris” project is also a “full Witcher game”, but it has nothing to do with the saga that begins with Polaris.

“It will be developed by an external studio led by veteran developers who have worked on previous Witcher games,” CD Projekt said.

The third Witcher project is being created by The Molasses Flood under the code name Sirius: “It will be different from our previous productions and will offer a campaign with quests and a story in addition to the single-player experience.”

That leaves Hadar, a codename for a completely new IP that CD Projekt is tackling and is building from the ground up at CD Projekt.

“The project is in the earliest stages of the creative process, which means we’re not developing a game yet, just working on the foundation for this new setting.”

Ultimately, CD Projekt would like to establish a total of three ongoing franchises as mainstays.
