dragon ball is one of the most popular anime series. During the numerous episodes, we were able to follow Son Goku’s journey up close and watch how the small child became a more or less responsible grandfather.

However, an image of Son Goku that has surfaced on social media has now caused confusion, as we don’t see the Saiyan in the usual anime look, but in a cartoon-like Pixar style. Here we explain what the picture is all about.

Son Gokus as a Disney+ series?

What can be seen on the picture? The screenshot shows a 3D animated likeness of Son Goku, who we can recognize by his signature messy hairdo and his staff. The character looks straight out of a Pixar movie, which is enhanced by the “Dragon Ball New Journey” lettering and Disney+ icon in the lower left corner of the image:

For many fans, this picture only led to the conclusion that Disney is planning a Pixar-style Dragon Ball series. A huge shitstorm then broke out and many fans complained about the appearance of the Pixar Son Goku. For example, user kudou wrote that nobody wants to see such an ugly Son Goku.

All the latest news from the Dragon Ball universe is here on GamePro:

Dragon Ball fans apologize

Is Disney really planning such a series? As it turns out, the image is merely the work of an artist unaffiliated with Disney. So there is no Disney + series planned that will tell the story of Son Goku again in a Pixar look.

The picture comes from the virtual pen of Van Rose. In hindsight, someone must have edited their picture and put the extra caption on it, leading fans to believe this is a new Disney+ series.

The fans row back: Many fans apologize for their cheeky statements to the artist. While they wouldn’t have wanted a Disney+ series in that vein, as a one-off art word, the image doesn’t look too bad. Said user kudou also apologizes to the artist:

Turns out it’s not Disney (I’m glad) and it was actually made by an artist. Now I feel bad for calling it ugly. (I changed my mind, he’s a huge talent due to the fact that I mixed that up with Disney)

But Van Rose assures that his feelings were not hurt by the many hateful comments. He finds it rather amusing and can be proud that his work was mistaken for a frame from a possible Pixar film.

What do you think of Pixar Son Goku? Would you watch such a film?
