Steam Deck: Now available to order without reservation, docking station is finally here

from Rhonda Bachman
For a long time, Valve’s handheld steam deck could only be ordered via reservation. But apparently the company was able to work through the queue faster than expected. The small console can now be ordered directly without a reservation. The official docking station is now available for this purpose.

On February 25th, Valve’s Handheld Steam Deck was officially released. Even before the release, those willing to buy could reserve one of the coveted consoles. Valve has been struggling with the queue of waiting gamers until now. In recent months, however, the company has been able to fill orders faster thanks to supply chain improvements. As Valve has now announced, the Steam Deck can now be ordered without prior reservation.

Steam deck without reservation and official docking station

As Valve writes on its Steam gaming platform, the Steam Deck can be produced more quickly than before after a good year. The queue for the coveted handheld has been completed since October 6th, which means that the console can now be ordered directly. Despite this, Valve states that the bandwidth for manufacturing, processing and shipping the devices is limited. If the order volume of a specific Steam deck model exceeds the capacity to ship it on time, the estimated shipping timeframe would also be pushed back. If necessary, the reservation queues could also be reintroduced.

In addition, Valve states that the official docking station for the Steam Deck is now available for 99 euros. The dock comes with three USB-A 3.1 Gen 1 ports, a USB-C port for power supply, DisplayPort, HDMI and a Gigabit Ethernet port. This allows the Steam Deck to be powered and connected to up to two external displays and a variety of peripherals. The official docking station is available now at a price of 99 euros. However, Valve points out that other USB-C docking stations or USB-C hubs can also be used instead of the new station.
