YouTuber ChrisDaCow has recreated the universe with its planets, stars and galaxies in Minecraft. In a video he explains how exactly he was able to do this.

Who is ChrisDaCow? The YouTuber’s name will be familiar to some Minecraft fans. He is active in the scene and has released several major videos of his spectacular builds in the game. These include, for example, the painting “Starry Night” by Vincent van Gogh or huge medieval castles.

Although his previous projects were already huge and took him many months of work, ChrisDaCow decided to take it one step further in his latest video. He recreated the universe in Minecraft, albeit a little smaller than it really is.

“Ok, you’ve completed Minecraft.”

how did he do that? The YouTuber’s construction project started (comparatively) relatively small, because initially he rebuilt the earth in Minecraft. He used World Edit for this, which forced the planets to be around 700,000 times smaller than the originals, otherwise they wouldn’t have fit into the game.

The buildings were still gigantic. For the earth alone, it took ChrisDaCow 3 days of labor to complete it. After that he went to the solar system.

In a video, the YouTuber explains how he was able to recreate the universe.

For the individual planets, the rings of Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune were the hardest part, but the sun also gave the YouTuber some work. He wanted it to look “like hot radioactive death,” so he used the brightest colors and recreated solar flares.

After the solar system also became too small for ChrisDaCow, he began to build other cosmic objects. These include, for example, the Pillars of Creation, which were first photographed by the Hubble Space Telescope in 1995. The YouTuber used the photo as a template for his construction project.

fun fact: The Pillars of Creation are a gigantic formation of “interstellar matter”, i.e. gases in ionized, atomic and molecular form, as well as dust and radiation. The pillars span a full four light-years. This is roughly the distance from Earth to the closest star to us (excluding the Sun), Proxima Centauri. You can find more about this on Wikipedia.

After the pillars were complete, the YouTuber went on to create a black hole that was meant to look just like the hole from the Interstellar movie. According to his own statement, it was the hardest thing he has built in the 9 years he has been playing Minecraft. This was followed by the various galaxies and finally the actual universe.

There are these reactions: For his creation, ChrisDaCow was celebrated by the community on social media, reddit and YouTube. In the Minecraft subreddit his video received over 116,000 upvotes and over 2,600 comments, in r/minecraftbuilds there were another 26,000 upvotes.

In the comments, users were amazed at the size and beauty of the project. Many congratulated him on the completion of construction and showered him with awards.

  • “Ok, you’ve completed Minecraft. That is incredibly impressive.” – Druss_Rua
  • “If this doesn’t become one of the top posts on the subreddit, I’ll be offended. Few people in the world can do what you do. […]”- Filqon
  • “It’s really damn impressive. Well done!” – gigagone

Even Xbox’s official UK Twitter account was impressed and shared the YouTuber’s video with his followers.

According to ChrisDaCow’s own statement, the construction project took about 2 months of continuous work. In the comments on reddit, he didn’t reveal where his journey will take him next, but it will certainly be something equally gigantic.
