PlayStation shipments to the US in September 2022 are claimed to have increased by around 400% year-on-year.

David Gibson, Senior Analyst at MST Financial, studied import documentation to determine how many Sony Interactive products were coming to the US.

According to Gibson, Sony Interactive shipped about 7.5 million kilograms of stock to the US in September 2022. This was a 400% increase (or five times the size) of the 1.5 million kilograms shipped to the US in September 2021.

It should be noted that this does not necessarily mean that five times as many PlayStation 5 consoles arrived in the country year-over-year last month, as the figure represents all of Sony Interactive’s shipments, not just PS5 consoles.

However, Gibson points out: “Many reports of PS5 supply improvement in recent months, but no data so far. US import data confirms that Sony Interactive (PlayStation) September shipments were +400% YoY. Yes, you read it right. Some of that will go into inventory for GoW launch for sure.”

Gibson also looked at Microsoft figures and estimated that Xbox supply was up 89% year-on-year (approximately 4.5mkg vs. 2.5mkg), but noted that the data required further interpretation to reach this conclusion.
