Microsoft: Xbox boss Spencer apparently shows new console on the shelf

Microsoft (Unternehmen) von Microsoft

Xbox boss Phil Spencer congratulates on the 25th anniversary of the Fallout series via Twitter – and accidentally or intentionally reveals the next Microsoft console. Sounds a bit far-fetched, but that’s exactly what happened.

While a tweet by Phil Spencer showed a lot of fallout over the event, one detail stood out: a small white box with the Xbox logo on it is on the top shelf. This is apparently Keystone.

Keystone: The streaming console

Behind the alias is Microsoft’s next console, which will be very different from the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Keystone, as Microsoft revealed back in May 2022, will be a pure streaming console and will be compatible with every television and monitor. The basis is Xbox Cloud Gaming, which is included in the Xbox Game Pass and already supports numerous games.

It is precisely that streaming device that users want to have found in Phil Spencer’s tweet. The white box at the top of the shelf looks like an Xbox Series S, but it’s a bit too small. Instead, such a compact model would certainly suit a streaming console.

Microsoft itself then indirectly confirms that it is apparently Keystone. In relation to Spencer’s tweet commented the official Xbox account with the words “What did we say about putting old prototypes on the shelf, boss?”

Keystone details still unclear

According to these words, it is actually the planned streaming hardware from Microsoft – but probably not the current version. Microsoft is known to have scrapped an earlier Keystone prototype to start development from scratch.

So it’s possible that Phil Spencer’s shelf is this old prototype that’s reminiscent of an even smaller Xbox Series S. How far advanced the current version of Keystone is remains unclear.

From Microsoft there are almost no details about the planned streaming hardware. This will probably only change with an official announcement.
