Recently, Starfield of Bethesda Game Studios has received some new details courtesy of a brief question and answer session with director Todd Howard. It was revealed that the game previously used fuel and a gravity boost for spaceships. Over time, however, the team found this to be “very punitive” to the player, as the game would stop if they ran out of fuel.

This was recently changed so that the gravity drive and fuel would limit how far you could travel, but it wouldn’t run out so you wouldn’t get stranded. Howard also talked about traits, each of which offers something negative to balance out the positive. Interestingly, there is an in-game activity to remove a trait for the rest of the game.

In June, it was confirmed that Starfield it had over 200,000 lines of dialogue. Since then, the number has grown to more than 252,953, which is more than double the 111,000 lines from Fallout 4. The dialogue system has been described as “classic Bethesda style”, but the speech persuasion check has undergone some changes. Players can now spend points during a conversation to persuade people.

Higher point persuasion checks can be hard to pull off, but they’re worth it. Howard noted that this feels “more natural” rather than going into some other mode where one isn’t regularly dialoguing.

Starfield It will be out in the first half of 2023 for Xbox Series X/S and PC. A release date has not yet been confirmed.
