iPad Pro 2022 M2: Already available for pre-order, prices are increasing

The rumor mill in the Apple world has long been speculating about an iPad Pro with an M2 chip, and now the time has come: Apple surprisingly has the “new” iPad Pro announced, which can be ordered now. Will be delivered on October 26th. Before that, Apple will roll out iPad OS 16 (24.10.).

What’s in the new iPad Pro 2022?

After Apple presented the iPad Pro M1 in April 2021, it is now logical continue with the M2. As usual, the iPad Pro 2022 is available with 11 and 12.9 inches, but unlike usual there is no lead time and the products can be ordered directly. The core is Apple’s M2 SoC, which is said to be up to 15 percent faster than the M1 with eight cores. There is more performance in the GPU part with up to 35 percent more graphics performance on ten GPU cores. Apple also highlights its Neural Engine, which is up to 40 percent faster than the M1 when it comes to complex operations and machine learning. Apple also emphasizes the 100 GB/s shared RAM bandwidth and up to 16 GB of shared RAM.

There should be advantages in interaction with iPad OS 16 and the Apple Stencil Gen 2. Apple mentions a “hover function” that practically looks like the Pencil is already recognized up to 12 millimeters above the display. Users should be able to preview the marking before making it. There are obviously no changes to the Liquid Retina XDR display of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro or the Liquid Retina display of the 11-inch iPad Pro. There were upgrades to the connections, so the 2022 generation now relies on Wi-Fi 6E.

Compared to the iPad Pro 2021, Apple is tightening the price screw. In Germany, the iPad Pro 2022 M2 with 11 inches starts at 1,049 euros (WiFi) or 1,249 euros (WiFi + 5G). The 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2022 M2 costs 1,449 euros and 1,649 euros respectively. In 2021, the prices were still 879 / 1,049 euros and 1,199 / 1,369 euros. So Apple adds between 170 and 280 euros. The storage variants are 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB and also 2 TB.
