New Ranked System Explained – How to climb up the divisions
Overwatch 2’s new ranked system is more nebulous than its predecessor. SR points are gone, so now you level up in the hero shooter.
Hamburg – The absolute heart of Overwatch 2 on PS5, Xbox Series X and PC is the ranked mode of the game. Unlike part 1 of Blizzard’s hero shooter, players no longer receive skill ratings at the end of a game. Progressing through the tiers from Bronze to Grandmaster now works a little differently. We’ll show you how Overwatch 2’s new ranked system works.

Overwatch 2: The SR rating is history – but the new ranked system remains confused
Where have the SR points gone in Overwatch 2? If you are looking for your SR value in Overwatch 2, you can do so for a long time. Similar to the loot boxes deleted in Overwatch 2, the well-known rating system from the first part is now a thing of the past and has been allegedly entirely deleted. Allegedly This is because Blizzard is now calculating its own skill level under the hood – it is simply not entirely clear which exact values are included in the new classification.
How does Overwatch 2’s ranked system work? Players no longer get direct feedback at the end of a game like they did in the first Overwatch. Only after 7 wins or a total of 20 defeats does Overwatch 2’s ranked system give an assessment of your play style. Both victories and defeats should be included in the evaluation, but, unlike the old SR system, your individual stats within your completed matches should now also be included. In that sense, it can be assumed that the new ranked system works more like the skill assessment that Overwatch does at the beginning of a new season.
What are divisions in Overwatch 2? There is also an innovation in Overwatch 2 for the individual levels – i.e. bronze, silver, gold, etc. Each of the known tiers, except for the top 500, is now divided into 5 divisions. The divisions are basically sub-levels within a level. The lower the division, the closer your skill is to that of the next higher tier. So if you’re in Division 1 at the Gold tier, you’re likely to be on the verge of moving up to the Platinum tier soon. The levels in Overwatch 2 are:
- Bronze – Split into 5 divisions
- Silver – Split into 5 divisions
- Gold – Divided into 5 divisions
- Platinum – Divided into 5 divisions
- Diamond – Divided into 5 divisions
- Masters – Divided into 5 divisions
- Grandmasters – Divided into 5 divisions
- top 500
With each re-evaluation (i.e. after a total of 7 wins or 20 defeats) you can also move up or down several divisions at the same time in Overwatch 2. So always work hard to maintain your skill rank. As in the first Overwatch, your level also determines whether you can play matches with friends. These can only be a maximum of two levels above or below your own. For example, Gold players can play with Bronze players, but not with Master level players or higher.
Overwatch 2: Gold weapons require ranking points
No more SR rating – can I still earn gold weapons in Overwatch 2? Don’t worry, there are still golden weapons in Overwatch 2. For a completed game in Overwatch 2 you get so-called ranking points. There are 15 ranking points for a win and 5 for a tie. Your skill level at the end of a season also gives you ranking points. The points are then distributed according to the following key:
bronze | 65 ranking points |
Silver | 125 ranking points |
gold | 250 ranking points |
platinum | 500 ranking points |
diamond | 750 ranking points |
master | 1,200 ranking points |
grandmaster | 1,750 ranking points |
top 500 | 1,750 ranking points |
If you want to treat yourself to a golden weapon in Overwatch 2, you have to pay a total of 3000 ranking points for it. So gilding your own shooting iron is still a rather expensive fun.
