Apple introduces new iPad Pro with M2 chip & affordable iPad 10

Apple presented new iPads on Tuesday evening: In addition to the new iPad Pro models with a powerful M2 chip, the manufacturer also presented a new entry-level model. The iPad 10 does without the Lightning connector and comes in four different colors.

Instead of an event, there were only press releases for the new one on Tuesday iPad 10 and the two iPad Pro models 2022. The new Pro generation is powered by the latest Apple silicon chip, the M2. This celebrated its debut in the 2022 models of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro and now also provides a performance boost in the iPad Pro. The chip should work up to 15 percent faster than the M1, the GPU even up to 35 percent faster.

In addition to the new chip, there are also some new functions for the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2022. The tablet now recognizes when the Apple Pencil is hovering over the display. Content on the user interface can then anticipate an action by the user. For example, a note field may pop up when you hold the stylus over the screen. Third-party apps should also be able to use this “hover” function.

Also new is the support of the Wi-Fi 6E standard in the new iPad Pro. If you are connected to an appropriate network, you can download content up to twice as fast as before. The Cellular models now offer 5G support.

Pricing and availability of the Pro models

The iPad Pro 2022 is available with either an 11 or 12.9 inch display. The tablet has been available for pre-order since October 18. It will be available in Apple Stores on October 26th. You can choose between the colors silver and space gray, the storage configurations range from 128 GB to 2 TB. Prices start at 1,049 euros for the 11-inch model, the larger version costs at least 1,449 euros.

iPad 10: New entry-level model with USB-C

Apple also presented a new entry-level model on Tuesday: The 10th generation iPad has a larger display, is powered by the A14 Bionic chip and now also does without the Lightning connector. Instead, USB-C is on board. And another old acquaintance is missing: The iPad 10 comes onto the market without a home button. Overall, the entry-level model with a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display now looks more like the iPad Air. Because the edges are narrower and the design more modern.

In addition to the chip, the cameras have also received an update: a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera is now on board for video calls. Like the Pro models, the iPad 10 also supports the fast Wi-Fi 6E standard, and the cellular models offer 5G support. The new iPad 10 is also compatible with a new keyboard: The Magic Keyboard Folio was specially developed for the 10th generation iPad and offers, among other things, a trackpad that can be clicked anywhere.

Like the iPad Pro 2022, the iPad 10 can already be pre-ordered. It will be available in stores on October 26th in the colors blue, pink, yellow and silver and with 64 or 256 GB of internal memory. Prices start at 579 euros for the Wi-Fi models and 779 euros for the cellular versions. The Magic Keyboard Folio costs 299 euros, the Apple Pencil (1st generation), which is also compatible with the iPad, can be purchased for 119 euros.
