Modern Warfare 2 is about to be released. The preload starts today, October 19th – when does the new Call of Duty start on PS5, Xbox and PC?
Update from 10/19/2022, 7:00 p.m.: The preload for the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has now officially started. Even before the release you can download it diligently. So you can play directly in time for the launch and don’t have to wait. All information here.
Santa Monica, California – With the release of Modern Warfare 2 fast approaching, fan anticipation is building. After the successful beta, many fans can’t wait to get their hands on the new Call of Duty in its entirety. There will be a preload for Modern Warfare 2 so that you can gamble right from the start. We’ll tell you when you can start the download.

Modern Warfare 2 Preload – When can you download the game?
When does the preload for MW2 start? The dates for the preload on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S as well as PS4 and PS5 have now been announced. Contrary to expectations, the preload times for the full release differ on PC and Xbox, as well as PlayStation. You can preload Modern Warfare 2 on Steam or Battle.net one day before launch. Preload starts October 19th on Xbox and October 20th on PlayStation. However, if you play Modern Warfare 2 in Early Access, only the campaign is playable. Here is an overview of the dates:
- Preload Early Access: Wednesday, October 19, 7 p.m. (all platforms)
- Launch Early Access: Thursday, October 20, 7 p.m. (all platforms)
- Preload Full Release (PS): Thursday, October 20, 1 p.m
- Preload Full Release (XBox): Wednesday, October 19, 7 p.m
- Preload Full Release (PC): Wednesday, October 26, 7 p.m
- Start full release: Friday, October 28, 6 a.m. (all platforms)
You have to consider this: The times listed above are German local time. If you are in a different time zone, the times may vary. If you start the download at this time, you should be able to play right away when the game starts. Keep in mind that you can only play Modern Warfare 2 on PC with a connected mobile number.
How big is the download for Modern Warfare 2? So far, the download size of Modern Warfare 2 is only known for the PC with all system requirements. There you need 72 GB of storage space for the launch. Modern Warfare 2019 was 175 GB in total. But that was partly because Warzone was connected to it. However, the fear that Modern Warfare 2 could be close to 200 GB should be null and void with the confirmation for the PC. As soon as the download sizes for the consoles are known, we will add them here.
