Repo Man: Players will become a debt collector in 2023

In the first-person role-playing game Repo Man, players become a debt collector who finds himself in the red.

Repo Man, an immersive story-driven debt collector RPG set in an alternate world of Art Nouveau, neon lights and conspiracy, will also be coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

The developers primarily value the story and their unique style. Gameplay features complex dialogue, negotiation, exploration, combat, and mechanics inspired by stealth and card games, all combined in an open world setting.

The game is being developed by Achara Studios, an independent Polish development team specializing in narrative-driven titles and high-quality level design. Repo Man is being developed using Unreal Engine 5. The game is published by Games Box SA, a subsidiary of the Ultimate Games SA group.

Achara Studios’ project is a first-person role-playing game focused on single-player mode. It’s all about dialogue, investigation, negotiation and good time management. While Repo Man is primarily driven by its fleshed out and layered story, the game will also feature stealth gameplay, card play, combat and exploration elements.

Alan Padziński, CEO of Achara Studios: “Most importantly, this is not another so-called walking simulator. Repo Man is closer to Torment than Disco Elysium. When developing a game, we take great care to ensure that our title offers varied and engaging gameplay, and not just simply clicking on dialogue options.”.

The player takes on the role of Arthur Newstead, a debt collector whose life is thrown off balance when he finds himself in unexpectedly large debts. Exiled from the world of corporate aristocracy, he is forced to return to his hometown of San Alma.

Not only does Newstead have to pay off his debts on a regular basis, but he also finds himself confronted with mysterious events and machinations that escalate from week to week.

Alan Padziński explains: “In Repo Man we will take players to an alternate reality – a world similar to our own, which is more advanced in some respects while lagging behind in others. It’s a world populated not only by humans, but also by the fae – descendants of mythological beings resembling elves, dryads, and satyrs. The people of this planet are also struggling with TDD, an epidemic form of depression whose cause is unknown. This world is nearer its end than its beginning.”

The developers have in mind a unique graphic design with motifs reminiscent of Art Nouveau. The game’s distinctive atmosphere is underlined by an original soundtrack that mixes different genres such as synthwave, fado, ethnic and symphonic music.

Tomasz Supeł, CEO of Games Box SA said: “Repo Man is among the fascinating titles to be released in 2023. It might appeal to those who like gameplay similar to Planescape: Torment or Disco Elysium, and in terms of presentation, it will please fans of the BioShock series, Deus Ex, Dishonored, etc.

As the publisher announced, a demo of the game will be released on PC as early as the first quarter of 2023, giving a taste of what Repo Man will have to offer.

Repo Man will be released for PC (Steam) in 2023. A release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S is also planned at a later date.
