The next game of The Sims is supposed to have multiplayer aspects – lets you work together with friends

On October 18, 2022, not only did the popular life simulation “The Sims 4” become playable for free on all platforms, the “Behind The Sims Summit” stream event also ran. There EA presented an upcoming Sims game that should even have certain multiplayer elements.

What game is it? The upcoming Sims game is Project Rene. An official title, such as “The Sims 5” is not yet known. “Rene” is intended to evoke words such as “Renaissance” and “rebirth”.

How should the multiplayer aspects look like? Like the American online magazine PCGamer.com reported, the construction phase in Project Rene should follow a social approach and include some kind of multiplayer element. So you can share your builds or help your friends decorate and set up a room.

In a blog post in which EA summarizes the information from the “Behind The Sims Summit” event, the developers also write: With Project Rene, players have the choice of whether they want to play alone or together with others, and they can play their game on all supported devices (via. ea.com).

Accordingly, Project Rene not only offers the opportunity to play together with other players, but also to experience the title on several platforms. In the stream, we saw a player edit their room setup on mobile while simultaneously changing it on PC.

How did the last attempt at Sims multiplayer go? With The Sims Online, EA had already made a first attempt in 2002 to establish a multiplayer for The Sims. Although this was playable worldwide, it never received a translation into the German language. Also, playing The Sims Online required a subscription.

In 2007, The Sims Online was supposed to have a new name with EA-Land, but the developers decided to discontinue the game in 2008 (via. techcrunch.com)
