Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 occupies a large part of your SSD if you install the new Activision shooter on the PS5. As it stands, CoD Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 once again take no prisoners when it comes to storage space requirements. They are still lagging behind the bloated problems of a few years ago, but not by much. But there are at least ways to remedy the situation and save space.

History repeats itself: War always stays the same (or something?) and that also applies to the storage space hunger of Call of Duty games in combination with Warzone. At least it currently looks like you can’t load too many games on your PS5 SSD besides CoD Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.

130 GB space required: The boxes for the PS5 and Xbox versions of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 state that the game would require a minimum of 130GB of storage space. Not only does that seem pretty over the top, it’s also pretty confusing.

With Warzone 2.0? It seems that the installation of CoD Warzone 2 is directly included here – and of Call of Duty HQ, which is probably the name of the game’s launcher. The packaging also states that at least 70 GB of download would be required to play. There is also talk of mandatory updates that could require even more storage space.

But there are definitely ways in which storage space can be managed at least a little better. How many GB you have to download for each part of the game can be found here:

Even though the PS5 actually only has 63 GB to download, the game appears to be around 130 GB after unzipping. The same applies to the other consoles in one way or another, although the Xbox will have a download of more than 71 GB.

For example, anyone who has completed the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 story can simply delete the campaign from their hard drive. In the past, too, there was almost always the option of installing or uninstalling the Special Ops co-op mode, multiplayer or Warzone (2) individually.

How it works:

  • On the PS4 you have to hover over the game icon and press the options button on your controller. Then you select “delete”, confirm this and go to the purchases in your PS4 library. Then you should be able to choose which content you want to download individually in Modern Warfare 2.
  • On the PS5 you also need to be over the MW2 icon on your home screen and then press the options button on your controller. You can then navigate to the “General” tab in the options and check the individual boxes next to the Modern Warfare 2 content packs under Game Installs at the bottom.
  • On Xbox you should also hover over the (completed) game in your library and press the options button. Then you can scroll down and find an option to manage game and add-ons. There you select what you want to install or uninstall and then press the appropriate button to install or uninstall all selected options.
  • On the PC It all depends on whether you’re playing on Steam or in the Battle.net launcher. With the former, you have the option of right-clicking on the game and going to “Properties” and making a selection from the DLCs. Battle.net has a “Modify Installation” option.

Actually, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will not be released until next week on October 28th for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One and PC. However, you can already play the story campaign if you have pre-ordered the shooter digitally. The story even unlocks operators and you get a weapon blueprint for multiplayer.
