Also for Switch & Co.: Microsoft wants to make Call of Duty the next Minecraft

Call of Duty could soon be owned by Microsoft. If the takeover deal with Activision Blizzard works, the shooter franchise will also be owned by the Xbox makers. After that, the brand could not only stay on the PlayStation, but also come back to the switch, for example. Phil Spencer draws a comparison with Minecraft in this context.

That’s what it’s about: Microsoft wants to acquire Activision Blizzard King (ABK). The deal would then include all franchises belonging to the publishers’ development studios, and that includes Call of Duty. How the franchise, a possible exclusivity and all the trimmings will continue has been heating up for a long time:

Microsoft’s big CoD plans apparently do not envisage any restrictions in the form of exclusive deals for the future of the franchise, but rather the opposite. Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer reiterated to Tom Warren that Call of Duty will also be available on PlayStation.

Also on the switch? The Xbox boss goes even further and says he would love to see Call of Duty on the Nintendo Switch and as many other screens as possible. He cites Minecraft as a role model, which can now be played on all platforms and thus excludes no one.

In addition, the takeover of ABK also involves mobile titles, as Phil Spencer clarifies again. This was made very clear some time ago:

The numbers speak for themselves, of course. While around 200 million households own a console such as Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PS4, PS5 or Switch, the number of smartphones is disproportionately higher. Apparently, Phil Spencer assumes that around 3 billion people play video games on their mobile devices.

Speaking of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is just around the corner. Check out the story campaign test video:

The campaign of the current Call of Duty could be played with a pre-order a few days before the regular launch. The rest of the game, including multiplayer, will start tomorrow morning at the latest. All information about preload and time can be found here.

On which device are you still missing Call of Duty and do you think that it really won’t be exclusive then?
