Sci-fi adventure Hubris wants to become the "killer app" for VR gaming

Virtual Reality is enjoyed by many fans, including our editorial staff, but perhaps in many eyes the “killer app“, to make the concept a bit more socially acceptable. The closest thing to it might be titles like Half Life: Alyx associate with this term. But an ambitious studio from Antwerp has made it its goal to bring this type of application onto the market itself. Finally, one publishes with hubris at the December 7th a sci-fi title that claims to advance the genre of VR action adventures. The release date for the PCVR version of the game was announced with an official trailer. 2023 should versions for Meta Quest 2, Playstation VR2 and more headsets to come.

Why is?

The players are assigned to find the agent Cyana in the planetary system as a recruit of the mysterious “Order of Objectivity”. The mysterious gameplay trailer also hints at what players in space can expect. Strategic action against a variety of opponents is just as much an aspect of the game as free climbing, swimming or sneaking, as well as crafting and usable vehicles.

In addition to the premise and the genre, the developer studio Cyborn advertises with motion capture technology or immersive 3D graphics. The look of the game is well received in the YouTube comments on the trailer. And the title also managed to convince some people at Gamescom 2022. At least that’s the impression Cyborn got. “We were blown away by the feedback during Gamescom. In little more than a month we can Hubris finally present to VR players worldwide“, says Ives Agemans, CEO and Game Director at Cyborn. Whether and how you can take the positive feedback for the VR action adventure is a completely different matter.
