Involuntarily or not, HBO itself recently leaked a possible start date for the HBO series The Last of Us. It has now been officially confirmed: The leak from the HBO Max site is correct. For us, that means we can go on a post-apocalyptic road trip with Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as early as January, without a PlayStation console.

  • When does the series start? Season 1 of the series adaptation premieres on HBO on January 15, 2023.

But beware! A German start date is not automatically confirmed. However, it is very likely that the first broadcast in this country on Sky and WOW will take place promptly and on a weekly basis. At least that’s how it’s usually done with major HBO series, most recently House of the Dragon.

The first season consists of ten episodes that retell (with a few liberties) the events of the first The Last of Us game: The Cordyceps spore fungus has turned most people into zombies and brought society to a collapse. 20 years after the outbreak, Joel fights his way through as a smuggler and finally gets a job that will not only change his own life: He is supposed to bring the young Ellie, who is immune to the fungus, across post-apocalyptic USA to the Fireflies.
