Logitech G713 TKL Review

Logitech G713 TKL Review GamersRD11

Logitech G has launched a new collection called Aurora, with a very beautiful style and design. From this collection we have had to try the mechanical keyboard Logitech G713TKL that promises to decorate our desktop in the best way.

Small keyboards are very fashionable lately and this G713 is a TKL (10 fewer keys) with a space for multimedia controls and a palm rest that we can put as an option but that comes within the package.

Inside the box is obviously the G713 Mechanical Keyboard, a detachable USB C cable (there is a wireless version of this same keyboard), a rather striking cloud-patterned wrist rest, and the manual. Before continuing let’s know a little about the product specifications:

  • Length: 370.6mm
  • Width: 157mm
  • Height: 37.2mm
  • Weight: 962.5g (with cable)
  • Key layout: Tenkeyless to save space
  • Double-shot PBT: Durable and textured keycaps
  • Media controls: With volume roller
  • 87-key non-keypad keyboard (TKL)
  • Individually illuminated RGB mechanical switches
  • Double Shot PBT Keycaps
  • 16-LED perimeter lighting under the box
  • Brightness control button
  • detachable cable

The first thing that stands out about this keyboard is the way it is packaged. As you can see from the reel at the end of this review, the way this is packaged is incredibly beautiful. The overall build quality of the keyboard is very good. I would dare to say that it is quite durable, although the white color does not always promise to remain as beautiful as the first day, this is another point to highlight. The palm rest is in the form of a cloud and unlike others it does not need to be attached to the keyboard itself.

The packaging is really quite good but it does not come with any tool to remove the keys or a better quality USB C cable. Frankly the quality of the keyboard is only in the keyboard itself and not in its accessories to make life easier for the user. This design is very pleasing to the eyes, but above all, this palm rest is quilt-like, somewhat fluffy. I imagine they are looking to replicate the feeling of a cloud, as I mentioned before this is a TKL keyboard but it keeps the media keys and some quick shortcuts like one to control the RGB lighting or lock the home key.

Speaking of RGB we can see that by installing the Logitech G HUB software you can control this lighting very well. The keys are simply backlit but the keyboard itself has edge lighting which makes it look quite sublime in the dark. When it comes to installing the keyboard, everything goes in a simple and easy way with the ways to customize the colors from the same software. This keyboard also has double-stranded PBT keycaps for added durability.

Let’s talk about switches

The switches of the version for review that we have are the GX Red Linear. To know a little, linear switches are a type of switch that focuses on producing a smooth and consistent actuation / action without any tactile feedback. Linear switches are great for people who don’t like the little bump they experience when typing with tactile switches or the loud noises of clicking switches.

In short, we have a somewhat quieter keyboard than conventional mechanics, only that we have a much faster response, which seems to me. When testing these keys I was able to notice an excellent response in Overwatch 2, Modern Warfare II and Fortnite. On the other hand, you can feel how the keys do not press as deeply to register the contact.

One of the great situations of today’s keyboard is customization. How much you can adjust the keyboard to your liking. Unfortunately, this keyboard does not have that wide variety of options to customize both at the internal functionality level such as additional keys or commands via the Function key (Fn) and externally with some additional set of keys for more aesthetics or change the switches to another style. This keyboard is somewhat traditional when it comes to customization and this is something really double-edged.

Throughout my several days of intense use (even at the time of writing this review) it felt quite pleasant, comforting and above all in a direct way. The additional keys like the multimedia ones feel quite soft and at the same time durable as well. Not that we’re going to be pressing them all the time but a lot of the first things to go bad on keyboards are these keys. The volume wheel also feels light when adjusting volume and on the left side we have keys to control lighting next to the button that many love, which is the one to lock the Start / Windows key while we play.

This G713 TKL does not have much to offer other than aesthetics and color customization. A great feeling when writing but nothing else, nothing so challenging or impressive to highlight. At times it can feel like it’s a somewhat chunky keyboard and very toy-like in a sense. It is impressive that it can be connected next to all the other Logitech G devices for better synchronization between peripherals but nothing more.

In conclusion

The Logitech G713 TKL is a keyboard with a fairly pronounced aesthetic. It is a robust keyboard that offers durability and at the same time offers a lot of comfort thanks to the palm rest that it brings. The keys are fast action and the noise is quite low compared to others. This is not considered to be a competitive keyboard but at the same time it has the qualities, including buttons to control the multimedia among other functions. It lacks certain tools that could make life easier and the USB cable is of very basic quality as well as having a very limited level of customization. Above all else, it is an excellent proposal for those who want to have a white setup or have all the peripherals of the Logitech G Aurora Collection. This review was conducted for a peripheral provided by Logitech G.
