WoW: Asmongold Urges WoW Anime Series – “Stop Trying Live Action”
When Warcraft: The Beginning was released in 2016, WoW fans were conflicted. For one, there was finally a Warcraft movie in theaters, which was cool. On the other hand, the live-action implementation was not entirely convincing. It was an ambitious project by Blizzard and director Duncan Jones. Fans and probably also the makers knew that an animated film would have been better received.
The developers show again and again that Blizzard can create fantastic animated films with the cinematics of World of Warcraft (buy now )as recently with the Legacy cinematics for Dragonflight. And the Hearthstone team also convinces with its animations. For the upcoming expansion March of the Lich King the developers use a new animation style that is strongly reminiscent of the successful anime adaptation of League of Legends (Arcane).

Arcane was a huge hit. Looking at the Dragonflight cinematics and the Hearthstone trailer, WoW’s largest streamer Asmongold again asked why Blizzard didn’t produce an anime itself. After all, you can make money with it…
Asmongold like a WoW anime similar to Arcane
He was watching the Legacy Chapter 2 cinematic on his Twitch stream when a viewer asked if they would like a second live-action movie after Warcraft: The Beginning.
“I think if they ever did another WoW live action movie, which I don’t think they shouldn’t do in the first place… Thank you that we have three different role models: we have Castlevania, Arcane and the cyberpunk anime. Stop trying live action. Stop it, just stop it.”
Asmongold prefers a Blizzard-produced animated series to a live-action film because “the style of Warcraft doesn’t really fit live-action films”. He finally added: “Live action hinders creativity.”
The Warcraft live-action film was panned by critics upon its release, and in the six years since its release there has been no news of a sequel to the film. While there’s also no news of a WoW animated series in the works, Asmongold would rather see that than another big Warcraft movie. You too? Write to us in the comments.
