WoW reveals how you embarrass yourself on Twitter – and hundreds of thousands are participating

WoW Twitter Trends

World of Warcraft calls for disclosure of your characters. Many join in and bring many a silly detail to light.

A lot of time, energy and love has gone into many a character in World of Warcraft. After all, Blizzard’s MMORPG is a game that some of us have been playing for almost 18 years. That’s when the developers behind Warcraft thought it was time to share the story behind your characters with the world.

As soon as Blizzard called for it, it became a real success on Twitter. Because if you tweet your character name, Blizzard will tell you and the whole world what the character has already achieved – and what he keeps failing at.

What’s happening on Twitter? The hashtag “#WarcraftStory” has been trending on Twitter since November 3rd, 2022. Even in the German Twitter trends it was temporarily in second place with over 115,000 tweets on this topic.

The reason is that the World of Warcraft Twitter account has given anyone interested the opportunity to post their character’s history in a short story graphic. This information usually includes one or two highlights from the character’s career, such as the number of raid bosses defeated, the pets collected or the honorable victories won.

However, there is also some “embarrassing” information. This includes information such as the number of deaths from fall damage or how many flasks a character has already consumed.

The range of information is quite large, so that different information is brought to light each time. This attracts many who share their information to show off or have some fun with the embarrassing highs.

How does this work? If you want to have such a representation of your character yourself, then you simply have to tweet using the following pattern:

  • character name
  • realm name
  • region
  • #WarcraftStory
  • @Warcraft

You will then receive a response from the WoW Twitter account with a personalized story about your character, usually with a few seconds delay.

Of course, you can also just type in the names of other players’ characters to learn some of their darkest secrets…

What can you do if it doesn’t work? Some players report that the whole thing doesn’t work for them. Either the character is not found or there is an error message. If so, there are a number of things you should check:

  • The whole thing only works for characters from modern WoW – it doesn’t work for classic characters.
  • Check spelling. Are all special characters correct, the name of the realm and the region you are playing in?
  • Has the character been inactive for a long time? Then log in with him and log out again.
  • Is the character under level 10? Then it cannot be displayed.
  • Is your Battle.net account set to private? Then you must first enable the “Share my game data with community developers” feature on the Battle.net page under “Account Settings” → “Privacy” → “Privacy: Game Data & Profile”.

Have you picked up your “Warcraft Story” yet? Or is it better if you don’t really know these details about your characters?
