Black Panther Wakanda Forever: Reggiseur shares last conversation with Chadwick Boseman
The release of the Marvel blockbuster Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is imminent, already on November 9th the film will flicker across German cinema screens. The first reviews that were able to see the film in advance are very enthusiastic and that despite an apparently difficult production and some controversy. With all the anticipation, however, one should not ignore the tragedy that resonates with the release of the film. So it was supposed to be the great sequel to Chadwick Boseman’s adventure as T’Challa. However, before filming began, the actor died of colon cancer. Director Ryan Coogler recently shared how his llast conversation with the American actor.
Director reports on last conversation with Chadwick Boseman
Actor Chadwick Boseman lost his battle with cancer in August 2020 kept secret for five years. Now director Ryan Coogler has im Official Black Panther Podcast tells about his last, very emotional conversation with the actor. The filmmaker wanted to give Boseman a chance to read the script before getting feedback from the studio.
“I had just finished the script. My last conversation with him was a phone call asking him if he would like to read the script before I got feedback from the studio.”recalls Coogler. “That was the last time we spoke. And well, I, you know, he passed away just a few weeks after I was done.”
“He was tired, brother. I could hear he was weak. I’ve been trying to reach him for a few days […] We talked and I could hear him talking to me while lying down. We talked to each other and Simone [Boseman]was with him. and [lacht] he kicked out Simone because he didn’t want her to hear anything that might get him in trouble with the NDA. But she didn’t want to go. So I knew something was wrong. But they were joking and laughing.”
Boseman even planned a big wedding
The Black Panther Wakanda Forever director still remembers hanging out with longtime friend Chadwick Boseman, too private issues had spoken. “He talked about how they were planning their wedding in South Carolina and how many people he wanted to invite. He also asked about my child because he missed my baby shower.”he continues. “And then he said he did [das Skript] didn’t want to read because he didn’t want to conflict with the studio’s annotations, whatever they might be.”
“So he said something like, ‘It’ll be better if I can read it later’. But I found out later that he was too weak to read anything.”, Coogler ends the memories of his friend. Precisely because of the close bond between the two, he also has himself however, decided to recast T’Challa. It is sad to know that Boseman no longer had the strength to read Black Panther 2’s script. With his untimely death, he left a void in the hearts of thousands of Marvel fans worldwide and he is sorely missed to this day.
