Final Fantasy 16 could be out for PC as early as 2023

As Sony announces, Final Fantasy 16’s PS5 exclusivity will only last for six months. Since the JRPG is scheduled to be released in summer 2023, a PC version is already possible by the end of next year.

Sony has again secured exclusive rights for Final Fantasy 16 – the JRPG will initially only appear for the PS5. The deal with Square Enix is much shorter than many feared. According to Sony, the next installment in the popular role-playing game series will only be a Playstation exclusive for six months. The information comes from a new promotional video from the console manufacturer. Below a very short gameplay clip of FF 16, the following text can be read: “Final Fantasy 16 is expected in the summer of 2023. PS5 exclusive for six months.”

When Can PC Gamers Expect a Port of Final Fantasy 16?

The fact that Final Fantasy 16 will appear sooner or later for the PC was already confirmed at the time of the announcement. The big question is when to expect a port. If the title comes onto the market as planned in the summer of next year, implementation would theoretically be possible towards the end of 2023. But that’s not likely. Nobody should expect a PC version before spring 2024, it may not appear until later in the year after next, for example for the Christmas business.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which was launched for the PS4 in April 2020 and was only implemented for the PC at the end of 2021, offers a clue. The exclusive rights here were probably for one year – but that obviously doesn’t mean that a port will follow immediately when they expire.

Xbox players also have even worse prospects. To date, there is no version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake for Microsoft’s platforms, and no word has been heard of a Final Fantasy 16 on Xbox either. Incidentally, for Xbox players, Forspoken, which can also be seen in the PR material, does not look any better than Final Fantasy 16. The action RPG, due out January 24 for PS5 and PC, will remain a Sony (console) exclusive for a full two years.
