CPU poll after Ryzen 7000 and Raptor Lake: Can the 5800X3D win?

from Thilo Bayer
Now that the two new CPU architectures, Ryzen 7000 and Core i-13000, are at the start, a fresh survey is needed. Who has already switched? Or will the Ryzen 7 5800X3D create the big surprise?

The autumn line-up of processors is at the start: AMD has launched its first four Ryzen 7000 processors including the new AM5 platform, Intel has three Raptor Lake K CPUs (plus KF variants ) followed. So the cards are played, now the users decide. Reason enough, one new CPU survey in the PCGH Extreme forum.

PCGH regularly asks its readers about the components used in the gaming PC – whether as part of the PCGH database, which is updated once a month, similar to the Steam Surveys, or in specific surveys in the forum. This gives us an overview of which price ranges and which hardware categories the community is most interested in. Today it’s all about processors again: the results play a major role in the selection of benchmarks, special tests and investigations of anomalies. They also depict a timeline on which the choice of CPUs can be tracked over several years.

Review: CPUs in Q2 and Q3

What were the numbers from the last CPU poll on the PCGH Extreme forums? AMD ended up with a whopping 69.6 percent market share, which was even better than the last survey, where AMD achieved 67.33 percent. At 30.4 percent, Intel was only just above the 30 percent mark. More than half of AMD users (exactly 53 percent) were already using a current Ryzen 5000 at the time. That was different with Intel, Alder Lake only accounted for 28 percent of the Intel total. The clear individual leader in Q2 and Q3 was the Ryzen 7 5800X, which 14.6 percent of the survey participants bought. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D was still quite fresh back then, but the unusual gaming CPU recently shot to the top of the CPU charts, not least because of the significant price reduction to currently 367 euros (Best price at Mindfactory). And Intel seems to be doing better recently, the new Raptors are regularly in the top 5, especially the price-performance tip Core i5-13600K (383 euros at Mindfactory).

We now want to know how the situation is in Q4/22 and Q1/23. We would be very happy if you contact us would take part in the current survey. As always, we thank you for your commitment.
