An insider unpacks about the Pro and Slim models of the PS5. The release of the new Sony consoles should begin next year.

Hamburg – The PS5 continues to be one of the most coveted pieces for gamers around the world. Sony seems to be planning the first major upgrade for the console and could have a PS5 Slim on the shelves as early as the end of 2023. As a result, the well-known insider also has the assumption that the PS5 Pro will be released in 2025. These are the rumors surrounding PlayStation 5 Slim and Pro.

PS5 Slim: Rumors point to a release in 2023 – the current version will no longer be produced

What happened? New rumors about the release of the PS5 Slim have surfaced, prophesying a release in 2023. As in the previous console generations, Sony would like to save production and delivery costs with a narrower version. This coincides with rumors about the PS5 Slim, which already predicted a similar time window.

Now the well-known leaker Tom Henderson knows more and can give exact information about the production and release. The current PS5 will no longer be produced from October 2023, so the last consoles will hit the shelves in November 2023. It will be replaced by the PS5 Slim, which is scheduled to go into production from April 2023.

When is the PS5 Slim coming? According to the rumours, the slim Sony console will be available in stores in September 2023. Sony is expected to sell 18.5 million units of the PS5 Slim by the end of 2023. Sony wants to sell a total of 30 million PS5 consoles next year.

This is what the PS5 Slim can do: As previously leaked, the PS5 Slim should come with a removable drive and be less about increasing performance. So you should be able to upgrade a driveless PlayStation at a later date. Because the new version should completely replace the current version, the leaker also thinks that Sony will not call the console “PS5 Slim”, but will market it under a new name.

PS5 Pro: Leaker predicts release in 2025 – that is known so far

When is the PS5 Pro coming? While Henderson can cite sources for the PS5 Slim rumors, he has to speculate when it comes to the PS5 Pro. With the release of the narrow version at the end of 2023, he suspects that Sony has no plans for the PS5 Pro in 2024. Accordingly, a release could only follow in 2025 or later.

However, these rumors should be treated with caution. At any time, internal plan changes can cause later (or even earlier) releases.
