Final Fantasy XIV: The Best Job Quests You Should Play

final fantasy xiv dark knight af4

Some job quests in Final Fantasy XIV have very good stories. It’s worth playing for lore fans, even if they don’t really want to do the jobs.

These quests are about: The main story of FFXIV is loved by many fans of the MMORPG, but there are also a number of side quests to look forward to. This includes the quest series, the fighter and mage jobs, which players must complete during the leveling process in order to unlock new skills, for example.

Players who like exciting stories and deep insights into the lore of FFXIV should not miss these quests. They’re worth it, even if you don’t actually feel like actively playing the respective jobs. In that case you can level up the classes and later jobs via the Palace of the Dead or via the main scenario dailys.

In this list I have selected individual jobs from different roles whose stories are particularly good. The descriptions of the quests were kept as spoiler-free and vague as possible.

Final Fantasy XIV Class Guide: Which Job Suits You?

dark knight

The Dark Knight is by far one of the most popular job quests in the FFXIV community. Shortly after the release of the addon Heavensward, which introduced this tank, the first reddit threads and posts on social media quickly appeared, praising the story of the quests in the highest tones.

Even 7 years later and the release of a total of 6 new jobs, the dark knight has managed to maintain his place at the top. On the one hand, the story shows the ugly face of Ishgard again, on the other hand, it shows what it actually means to be “the warrior of light”.

Written by popular developer Natsuko Ishikawa, it presents players with tough philosophical and moral questions that they must answer for themselves.

scholar

The scholar’s story quests will bring a lot of joy to fans of FFXIV lore. They pick up the story of the lost nation of Nym and are closely related to the dungeon “Wanderer’s Palace”.

Since the individual sections of the job quests in FFXIV are divided into levels, the quality of the scholar quests varies a bit between the addons. The beginning is a bit slow, but around level 35-40 the story picks up speed.

By the way, if you don’t feel like healers or don’t dare to play a healer job, you can level up the DD Summoner instead. He and scholar share the levels. So you can play the quests without ever entering a dungeon with the scholar (and the summoner’s story isn’t bad either).

samurai

Samurai was one of the two DDs that came to FFXIV with the Stormblood addon. The job originates in the nation of Hingashi, which is still closed and cannot be entered by players.

As such, the job quests provide some scraps of information and lore that reveal more about Hingashi and its only port city open to trade, Kugane.

The best part of the quest, however, revolves around the personal story of a lonely old samurai master. He travels to Eorzea and takes in the player character as his new apprentice. In my eyes, the story delivered one of the best plot twists of all job quests, along with the dark knight.

astrologer

The announcement of the city of Sharlayan in the Endwalker addon was greatly celebrated by many fans of FFXIV lore. The influence of this nation has run through the entire history of the MMORPG and now you could finally enter the area yourself.

More information about Sharlayan was already available in the addon Heavensward. The healer Astrologer’s quests provided an earlier glimpse into the rather humble mentality of the nation’s ruling classes, which is still relevant in Endwalker.

In addition, the Astrologer quests bring what feels like a ton of lore facts about the celestial bodies in FFXIV and also their connection to the 12 gods, who play an important role in the new 24-man raid.

Bonus: role quests

The job quests have been changed in the Shadowbringers addon.

As of Shadowbringers, the classic job quests are gone and replaced by role quests that are the same for all jobs in a role. They split into tank, healer, magic DD, physical DD and later from the end walker also into physical melee and ranged fighters.

While the job quests have been rather modest in many instances (I’m looking at you Paladin), the role quests are great with only a few exceptions. I would recommend everyone to level at least one job from each role so you can experience these stories.

As a bonus, there are special quests for completing all role quests in Shadowbringers and later also in Endwalker, which drop additional lore bombs. So if you’re looking for new story fodder, you don’t have to wait for the next update. Try these quests.

Have you already played these quests? How did you like her? And what are your personal favorites among the job and role quests? Tell us in the comments.
