The 2D sandbox adventure Kynseed has received an official release date. The pixel RPG went through a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2017 as well as Valve’s Greenlight program, which has since been discontinued. The title entered Early Access in 2018 and is now scheduled to be released in its full form on December 6th.
RPG life simulation with gods and monsters
Kynseed is a multi-generational game set in a world where all characters age. When a character dies, their children continue to run farms or businesses. Besides the mundane things like cultivating the land, fishing or running a business, players also have to deal with vengeful gods or fearsome monsters.
The players can also grow ingredients for all kinds of magic potions and embark on adventures in dangerous regions. There they have to face dark fairy tale creatures in battle. In addition, strange artifacts can be acquired that help in combat, housework or with which one can wreak havoc in the world. However, these mysterious artifacts have to be paid for in years of life.
According to the developers, Kynseed is inspired by British folklore, old legends and rustic traditions and is reminiscent of the farm hit Stardew Valley, among other things because of the charming pixel look. PixelCount Studios was founded by veterans of Lionhead Studios’ Fable series. Neal Whitehead, co-founder of developer PixelCount and one of the developers who also worked on Fable, described Kynseed as “the game we’ve always dreamed of making.”
