Nintendo Switch 2: Will it finally be backwards compatible?
A few days ago has Nintendo returned to investors’ questions. while has Shigeru Miyamoto talked about a potential successor to the Nintendo Switch. In particular, it was about backward compatibility, which we may get again with the next hardware from Nintendo. in the Minutes of the Q&A session states that the company has now made it easier to play older titles on new hardware. Development environments have been integrated into the software for some time.
The is confirmed backward compatibility but not yet in the future console. But it sounds like Nintendo has at least created the conditions for it. The possibility of playing past games on current hardware is actually not uncommon. A look at the last systems shows this. For example, the 3DS was compatible with DS software – and this in turn played GBA titles. It is similar with the consoles. The Wii U was compatible with Wii. And the Wii still played GameCube titles.
What do we know about the Switch successor?
In recent years it has been almost regular rumours given via a Switch Pro or Switch 2. So far, however, nothing has been officially confirmed. There will be unique things again though, as Miyamoto hinted: “Nintendo’s strength lies in creating new entertainment – so as we release new hardware in the future, we plan to continue to offer new and unique gameplay that cannot be realized on existing hardware.”
A simple successor to the Nintendo Switch (buy now €333.00 ) so there probably won’t be. In March 2017, the hybrid console was first released in stores. Since then, the hardware has spread worldwide 114.3 million times sold. The Switch will soon surpass the numbers of the game boy with 118.69 million copies. Only the NintendoDS turned over even more units (154.02 million).
