New MMORPG on Steam surprisingly reaches 8,000 concurrent players – but receives criticism

With TRAHA Global, a new MMORPG was released on Steam in November. The focus is on the battle between two major factions. Surprisingly, the title reached more than 8,000 concurrent players on Steam, although it is actually a mobile game that has only been rudimentarily adapted for the PC. However, thousands still log into Steam every day.

What kind of game is this? TRAHA Global is a free MMORPG brought to the West from Korea. In the game world there is a war between the two factions Vulcan and Naiad. You can join one of the kingdoms:

  • You create a character and choose one of seven weapon classes. The choices are: Scythe, Bow, Greatsword, Shield, Dual Blades, Staff, and Brass Knuckles. You can change classes at any time.
  • You roam an open game world and complete quests.
  • There are dungeons and raids.
  • There are several options in PvP, including a 1v1 arena and the grand RvR where 100 players from one faction fight against 100 players from the other.

Graphically, it’s roughly reminiscent of Lost Ark, where you play in the third-person perspective.

What makes the high player count on Steam so surprising? Originally, Traha was supposed to be a pure mobile game, which is clearly visible in the user interface. Skills are on the left edge and the mouse and keyboard controls don’t feel ideal.

Nevertheless, with a peak of 8,038 players, TRAHA Global has reached the records of MMORPGs such as Lord of the Rings Online, Old School RuneScape and even almost Guild Wars 2 (8,324). Two weeks after release, 2,000 players are still actively playing, surpassing even more MMORPGs like Elyon, Swords of Legends Online and RuneScape.

Although many can also be played outside of Steam, these 8,000 users made a conscious decision to play TRAHA instead. So we took a look at what these players find in the MMORPG.

Praise for graphics, PvP and lack of autoplay

What does TRAHA Global do well? The MMORPG currently has 729 reviews on Steam, of which only 46% are positive. This is not surprising, because many negative reviews directly criticize the mobile look and end the game again.

However, there are at least a few hundred positive reviews and they praise various points:

  • The user Sounds Like A You Problem has already invested 200 hours in the game. He finds the game fun and compares Arena PvP to Lost Ark. The only difference is that you don’t have a standardized gear, you have to upgrade your equipment. By the way, as in Lost Ark, this can fail.
  • After 90 hours of play, Kharneth especially praises the huge 100v100 battles.
  • Neoyoshi points out that TRAHA is one of the best mobile games out there because it doesn’t have any auto-play at all. Since you can also play it cross-platform, he plays it on both Steam and smartphones. He also praises a materials gathering mini-game that requires you to match images correctly to succeed.

In general, TRAHA seems to be a usable MMORPG, at least for the smartphone, as several reviews on Steam emphasize. We will be testing it in the coming days and may add it to our list of the best mobile MMORPGs.

What does TRAHA Global not do so well? A lot of the negative reviews revolve around the fact that it’s a mobile port and that there’s a lot of cash to be had in the game. Upgrade stuff is available for real money, and the $60 Premium Battle Pass is said to be almost a must-buy.

There is also PvP in the open world and it can happen that as a low-level player you get beat up by stronger players. There should also be a lot of Timegate.

Especially because of the negative reviews, we were surprised that TRAHA Global is getting so much attention. You can find a lot of videos on YouTube and it doesn’t do too badly on Steam.
