WoW: The good times are over - the gold win has been massively nerfed

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight Pre-Patch Part 2 is live. This goes hand in hand with a massive nerf to your gold earnings – the “fat times” are over for now.

The 2nd part of the pre-patch for the new expansion “Dragonflight” is now live in World of Warcraft. While pretty much everyone is busy trying out the new Caller class and clicking through the myriad of Dracthyr customizations, friends of the easy gold win shed a few tears. Because Blizzard has massively nerfed the simplest, but quite solid gold income.

What has changed? With the 2nd phase of the pre-patch, Blizzard has massively nerfed the gold profit from gold missions on the adventure table of your pact. “Massive” in this case means a reduction of over 90%.

Missions that previously awarded 300-400 gold now only award a measly 20-30 gold. Such a low win is hardly worth starting the mission anymore.

Two pictures from the side wowhead show the “before and after” comparison:

How much could you earn there? It all depends on how many characters someone had at level 60 and how much time you wanted to invest. If you only logged in once a day, you got between 1,000 and 1,500 gold, if you logged in twice a day there were also 2,000 to 2,500 gold – for 30-60 seconds each time, which was largely automated by an addon.

With several characters, the profit was correspondingly larger and could simply be multiplied. Anyone who had about 5 characters at level 60 and sent all gold missions twice a day earned between 10,000 and 12,500 gold in one day – that was even enough to finance the WoW subscription via the WoW brand.

Why is Blizzard doing this? Such a nerf to gold sources of income from “passive systems”, such as the adventure tables, is normal – Blizzard has been doing this since Warlords of Draenor. At that time, the garrison was weakened and later the missions on the ship in Battle for Azeroth. There is a simple reason why the Shadowlands adventure missions have now also caught on:

It’s not supposed to be the most efficient way for anyone to be able to earn gold in old content. If old content is too lucrative because of the gold gain, few players would turn to the new content. Also, it would be extremely annoying to have to travel back to the shadow lands every day to start the “table missions” over and over again.

This is how Blizzard protects the players a little from themselves – even if many now have to find a new source of gold.

How do you earn your gold from now on? Back to the classic way of farming resources? Or are you an auction house mogul?
