Undecember Steam Update: What’s the status of the failed Diablo alternative?

Waiting for Diablo 4: Korea Hack-and-Slay Undecember will be released in October

Along with Manor Lords, Undecember drew attention at the Steam game preview in October, garnering player counts in the low five-figure range. The hack’n’slash action RPG from the Korean developer Needs Games, which is reminiscent of Path of Exile and the genre father Diablo because of its free playability, then had over 40,000 simultaneous players when it started on October 12th, but in collectively dismissed the game.

Not a thousand reviews had been submitted to Steam for the release, but they already spoke a clear language, because only a meager 27 percent of them were positive. Now the developers are bringing a new, very extensive update, at least the changelog makes it seem, for Undecember. So it’s a good time to see how the Diablo alternative from the Far East is currently doing.

Ratings slightly better, player numbers have now halved

After more than a month, the reviews submitted on Steam have increased significantly. The ratings have meanwhile passed the 11,000 mark and approval for Undecember has improved slightly as a result. As is well known, the positive share of the ratings for the release was only 27 percent, this value is now at 45 percent. According to Steam standards, the rating ratio is at least “balanced”. Player counts aren’t what they used to be either.

Of the 46,000 simultaneous players at the release, about half remained on the ball. The daily highs are meanwhile between 20,000 and 25,000 players, what a hack ‘n’ slay like Undecember that players are so dissatisfied with, is remarkable. With 25,000 simultaneous players, you would almost put yourself at the 25 most played titles on Steam line up. And the conversion rate, compared to some significantly better rated games, is also impressive.

Undecember’s update scheduled for today could provide a boost for both positive feedback and player count. This is extremely extensive, as the patch notes suggest, and brings some innovations to the hack’n’slay action RPG, such as new raid content. There is also talk of a shadow mirror, a runestone enchantment, as well as rune engravings and awakenings. Additionally, there are five new items related to Runic Awakening.

New cosmetic content should not be missing either: Undecember gets two new costumes, a new pet, a new portal and other cosmetic content. There will also be two special events for the game to coincide with Black Friday.
