What should you consider if you want a graphics card – buy it now or later?

Graphics cards from AMD and Nvidia are also on offer around Black Friday. Is it worth it or is it better to wait?

If you want to buy a graphics card from AMD or Nvidia for your gaming system, you currently have three options to choose from:

• Either you buy an RTX 4080 or 4090 now.
• One waits until mid-December until AMD’s RX 7900 XT and XTX are available in stores.
• Or you can wait until AMD and Nvidia will introduce more graphics cards for 2023.

But which of these options is best? In this article, we explain what might currently be most worthwhile for you.

It may take until 2023 for the next “real” gaming graphics cards to appear

Is it worth waiting for the next generation? The new graphics cards like the RTX 4080 or the RTX 4090 are currently anything but cheap. who on miser If you are looking for the RTX 4080, you have to pay at least 1,500 euros, let’s not even start with the RTX 4090. And Nvidia is rightly criticized for high prices for many gamers.

The graphics cards from AMD, the RX 7900 XT and the RX 7900 XTX have not yet been released, but should also cost at least 1,200 euros in Germany.

However, the following applies to all graphics cards mentioned: They are all top models that are aimed at enthusiasts and who want to play in 4K or more. However, the majority of gamers still play in Full HD or WQHD. And for these users, such an expensive model is still not worth it.

Mid-range models, so-called mid-range cards, have not yet been announced. These are graphics cards aimed at the vast majority. It could therefore still be a good six months before an RTX 4060 or an RX 7700 XT appears on the market. It is also not yet known whether such cards will come at all, but it is very likely.

RTX 3000 and RX 7000 are worthwhile in 2022 with good offers

What’s the alternative? The last generation, the RTX 3000 graphics cards and the models of the RX 6000 series, are now readily available.

• You currently pay around 800 euros for an RX 6800 XT, a year ago you still paid 1,300 euros.
• You currently pay around 850 euros for an RTX 3080, a year ago you still paid 1,500 euros.

The current graphics card prices are therefore far removed from the prices of Christmas 2022 and there are always good offers that can be worthwhile.

If you get an RTX 3080 or an RX 6800 XT close to or slightly above the RRP, then you absolutely can’t go wrong with buying such a graphics card.

Because the GPUs of the last generation are still excellent models. If you buy an RTX 3080 or an RX 6800 XT now, you can still play cutting-edge games in several years without any problems. You don’t have to buy an RTX 4080 or wait another year for the midrange cards to come along.
