Photos of the largest collections of games: who still collects boxes?

from Thilo Bayer etc –
In the past, PC games were not only available as a download or housed in ugly DVD cases, but often in XXL format cardboard packaging. PC Games Hardware showcases the PCGH community’s game packaging and collections. Some users have some very old and rare, but often just chic game boxes in their collection.

At the top of the image gallery you will find submissions from the threads Show me your game packs and Show me your game collections, which you can also use to present your collector’s treasures. Some collections run into thousands of games, but recently there have been very few collectors identifying themselves on the PCGHX forums. Is collecting from retail boxes gradually dying out, although there are still many elaborately designed collector’s editions? We hope not and would therefore like to remind all collectors of the two threads.

By the way: There is also a “digital edition” of the collection threads for games. In “Show me your Steam libraries” Users publish screenshots of their sometimes lavish game collections.

There are almost nostalgic feelings when you look at the game boxes of bygone days. Nowadays there is still “real” packaging, but then only for expensive special or collectors editions. By default, games are housed in DVD cases that offer few options for an appealing look. It used to be different.

In line with this, there are currently discussions as to whether publishers are still enclosing printed manuals at all. That would be another step away from the well-equipped complete package to the savings version in stores – at the end of the chain there would be a purely digital game version with a PDF manual. Some users have already published a list of games in the Steam account instead of their game boxes.

The PC Games Hardware Extreme forum has been for a long time packaging of games collected that are still worth the name. If you still have old game boxes with you, take the opportunity to present them to the Extreme members with a photo. In addition, there is a second similar thread dealing with the complete game collections from the PCGH community members employed. If you want to show photos of your collection, use the forum thread to do so.

A notice: PCGH Extreme is the community for PC screwdrivers. On August 20, 2007, the PC Games Hardware Extreme Forum opened its doors to interested readers for the first time on the occasion of the Games Convention 2007.
