Do you struggle with identifying colors and enjoy chasing Shiny variants in Pokémon games? Then there is unfortunately bad news for you: In Pokémon Crimson and Crimson, this is now even more difficult because the corresponding sounds can only be heard later. So you only recognize the dazzling variants of the Pokémon when you start a fight with them.

Pokémon Crimson and Crimson: Accessibility hasn’t gotten any better, it’s actually gotten worse

That’s what it’s about: In Pokémon games, there have been so-called shiny variants or dazzling Pokémon for many years. They look slightly different than their normal counterparts and are extremely rare. Accordingly, they are in demand among trainers and many derive a large part of their fun from the Shiny hunt.

In most of the more recent Pokémon titles, the Shinys are not only recognizable by their different colors, but also by a kind of glitter and, above all, by a sound. This helps people with visual impairments such as so-called color blindness in particular to recognize dazzling Pokémon variants.

However, one change has been made in Pokémon Crimson and Crimson. Which makes sure of this for many people very helpful sound stopped working as usual and can be heard almost in passing. Instead, we now have to start a battle with every single Pokemon to get the Shiny acoustic signal (via: GameRant).

That means many colorblind coaches now take much longerto find shinys. Above all, this small change makes the hunt for it many times more tedious and exhausting. Above all, the change makes little sense or shows that color-blind people were not taken into account.

All of that wouldn’t be a problem, if there were other possibilities or options for more accessibility. For example, a vibration signal in the controller or something similar could fulfill the same function as the sound and be very helpful.

Unfortunately, Nintendo and Game Freak games have traditionally had very few accessibility settings. In any case, accessibility is not a top priority here, especially compared to the competition. The fact that a step backwards is now taking place is, of course, doubly and trebly annoying.

But Pokémon Crimson and Crimson struggle not only with accessibility setbacks, but also with many technical problems. Above all, frame rate drops, the resulting jerking, pop-ins, bugs and an empty, not lovingly designed game world ensure that we also devalued the latest Pokémon game in our GamePro test.

How are you doing with Shiny Hunt, what do you think of the changes?
