Intel NUC 13 Extreme: Accommodates an RTX 4090 Founders Edition

from Rhonda Bachman
At the beginning of November, Intel presented the latest version of its NUC Extreme series. The Intel NUC 13 Extreme bears the suffix “Raptor Canyon” and is said to be the company’s most powerful mini-PC to date. A Chinese website has now been able to test the computer and has even managed to accommodate a Geforce RTX 4090 Founders Edition.

Intel presented the latest version of its NUC Extreme series at the beginning of November. The Intel NUC 13 Extreme, codenamed “Raptor Canyon,” is around 70 percent smaller than a typical 50-liter gaming tower. However, with dimensions of 31.8 x 33.7 x 12.9 centimeters, the “Raptor Canyon” is larger than the previous NUC Extreme models. According to a Chinese website, there is even room for a Geforce RTX 4090 Founders Edition, which is not an easy task.

New NUC Extreme not as tiny as before

At the time of the announcement, Intel hinted that the NUC 13 Extreme will be launched in China first, before making it available to a wider audience in Q4 2022 and 2023. The Chinese “Computer Evaluation Room” is the first media company to have tested Intel’s new small form factor PC with the flagship Raptor Lake processor.

According to the Chinese website, it should be possible to equip the NUC 13 Extreme with an RTX 4090 Founders Edition. However, this process would not be easy, since the entire system would have to be dismantled. In addition, users would have to ensure that the graphics card does not consume too much power, at least if the power supply included with the “Raptor Canyon” is to be used. Intel’s latest NUC only ships with a 750-watt power supply.

In testing, the NUC 13 Extreme scored 2193/35478 points in the Cinebench R23 single/multi-core tests, as well as 917/15700 points in CPU-Z. In terms of Thermink, the CPU should heat up to 85 degrees Celsius, while the GPU can reach up to 67 degrees Celsius. Depending on the configuration, the NUC 13 Extreme is priced between $1,179 and $1,549.
