Even with the new PS Plus with Essential, Premium and Extra, there are probably still problems with the licenses.

PS Plus has been divided into three levels for a few months: PS Plus Essential, Extra and Premium. However, these three subscriptions can apparently get in each other’s way when it comes to certain game licenses. That means: In the worst case, you will even lose PS Plus Essential games completely, which you should actually be able to keep as bonus titles. But there is a way to avoid that.

PS Plus: Watch out for duplicate titles, this bug can make games disappear

That’s what it’s about: on Reddit a PS Plus subscriber vents his anger. Apparently he lost the PS4 version of GreedFall despite getting it as a monthly add-on on PS Plus (Essential). Normally it should remain playable until he cancels his subscription.

What happened? Apparently the Redditor had added GreedFall again via PS Plus Extra/Premium. However, the title was then removed from the games catalog and thus also from his account.

The problem appears to be that the PS Plus Extra or Premium version overrides the Essential license for the game. Which then also means that it will be removed again if it flies out of the subscription offer.

It’s not supposed to be like that. Ideally and typically you should be able to keep your PS Plus Essential games independently of PS Plus Extra or Premium. But apparently the licenses related to the PS Plus subscriptions have been causing problems for some time. Before the switch, there were similar cases with PS Now:

You can do this: To avoid cases like this, before adding PS Plus Extra and Premium games, it’s important to double check that you might not already have them through the monthly PS Plus Essential bonus titles. If that’s the case, use it.

With different versions Of course, things get a little more complicated: If the extra or premium version of a game offers different content, you have to decide whether you want to play and keep the potentially less advantageous version or whether you want to take more content, but possibly the game eventually loses it completely if it flies out of the catalog.

We follow up with Sonywhether there are other ways to deal with this and whether there are any plans to change the situation with PS Plus game licenses.

Have you ever had similar cases? Do you know any other options or solutions to the problem?
