FIFA 23 trailer shows the new grass experience

FIFA 23 was nominated for Best Sports Game 2022. The last game from EA for the time being, which still bears the name FIFA (from next year the series will be called EA Sports FC) offers not only the usual graphic updates but also many small but noticeable improvements in the career and Ultimate Team mode as well as on the lawn. However, there hasn’t been much progress this time either, and of course not much has changed in the microtransactions either. Despite this, FIFA 23 is still a good and comprehensive soccer game that is situated somewhere between beginner-friendly arcade fun and an authentic-looking simulation. In addition, the current licenses are of course only available here.

FIFA 23 for €39.99 (PS5) or €34.99 (PS4) on the PlayStation Store

Stray

Stray really is one of the most beautiful games of the year – and it’s really good too

The surprise hit Stray has received a number of nominations, including Game of the Year, Best Action/Adventure and Best Indie. We play a superbly animated and staged third-person cat who has been separated from her family and now roams through a futuristic city populated by robots. We experience many little stories and gradually learn more about the mysterious game world. The gameplay is mostly exploration, platforming and small puzzles, but the experience and atmosphere are more important than the gameplay challenge.

A Plague Tale: Requiem – Test video for the beautiful medieval game

Similar to Stray, A Plague Tale: Requiem received a number of nominations including Game of the Year, Best Narrative and Best Action/Adventure. Like its predecessor Innocence, Requiem, released in October, is set in a dark version of medieval France, in which we play young Amicia and her little brother Hugo. After being pursued by the Inquisition, the two now try to start a new life in the still-peaceful Provence, but their old problems soon catch up with them. The gameplay offers a little more action because Amicia can now also use a crossbow. Exploration, puzzles and stealth are still important.

Sifu

Sifu – Martial arts only looks this good in action movies!

Sifu is nominated in the categories Best Indie, Best Action and Best Fighting. We take on the role of a kund fu fighter who wants to take revenge for the murder of his family. Since he is happy with any means, in the spectacular fights he likes to use not only his fists but also all kinds of objects that he finds around him. But the most unusual feature of Sifu is the aging mechanism: if we die, we simply rise again. But the main character gets a little older with every death. This changes their abilities, some for the better and some for the worse. That’s why we have to constantly adapt our fighting style. We should also implement our revenge plans before we are too old for it.

Tunic – The charming fox Zelda is now also available for PlayStation

Tunic has received nominations for Best Indie and Best Debut Indie. In the action-adventure, reminiscent of early Zelda games, we control a fox armed with a sword from an isometric perspective. With this we explore a fairytale land in search of a huge treasure that is supposed to be hidden somewhere here. However, we do not know the exact location and so we have to roam the most diverse regions and levels from dark walls deep underground to a palace above the clouds, solving numerous puzzles and fighting monsters. We only have a chance against the tough boss opponents if we master the different fighting techniques.

Cult of the Lamb

Cult of the Lamb lets you found a demonic cult as a cute lamb

Cult of the Lamb lets you found a demonic cult as a cute lamb

Cult of the Lamb is also nominated for Best Indie Game. The whimsical game mixes elements of an Animal Crossing-style life simulation, in which we have to take care of a small village, with an action roguelike like Hades, in which we have to fight against hordes of monsters. Despite its cute graphic style, Cult of the Lamb has a dark twist: we are the leader of a fanatical cult that worships a deity reminiscent of Lovecraft’s Cthulhu. Accordingly, there are plenty of macabre game mechanics such as the ability to sacrifice loyal followers to gain more power, and plenty of bizarre and brutal twists and turns.

Cult of the Lamb instead of €24.99 for €19.99 in the PlayStation Store

OlliOlli World

Shortly before release, the trailer for OlliOlli World takes you all the way up to the skater god

OlliOlli World has been nominated for the title of Best Sports Game 2022 along with big AAA titles like FIFA 23 and NBA 2K23. The skateboard game has abandoned the pixel look of the first two parts and replaced it with 3D graphics with bright neon colors. The levels are still two-dimensional and the gameplay remains true to its roots: on our way to the goal we have to perform as many tricks and combos as possible in order to crack the high score. There is also a wacky background story about the skateboard paradise Radlandia, in which we try to rise to the rank of respected skateboard magician through our achievements.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge – Gameplay from the colorful pixel brawler

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge competes in the Best Action and Best Multiplayer categories. The classic beat ’em up in the style of a Double Dragon or Streets of Rage received great ratings (with our 85 points in the GamePro test we are still below the average rating), which is partly due to the stylish retro look, but above all, of course, is due to the combat system. This is basically simple and beginner-friendly, as it dispenses with overly complex combos. Still, Shredder’s Revenge isn’t easy, as punches, special attacks, and dodge rolls require good timing. In addition to the arcade mode with limited lives, there is a story mode with saves and local and online co-op.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

LEGO Star Wars reinvents itself – Skywalker Saga in 8 min

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was nominated for Best Family Friendly Game at the Game Awards. Here you can replay all three Star Wars trilogies, in any order. But scale isn’t the only reason we think LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is one of the best LEGO games out there. On the one hand, the graphics have increased significantly, on the other hand, the new combo system brings more depth to the action sections. All in all, you still get the usual mix of combat, platforming and exploration that the LEGO series is known for, spiced up with the trademark offbeat humor.

It Takes Two

It Takes Two Trailer Shows Why We Are Stronger Together

It Takes Two Trailer Shows Why We Are Stronger Together

It Takes Two is no longer among the nominees this year, but was awarded the title Game of the Year last year, among other awards. This is about a married couple who actually want to get a divorce, but are turned into little dolls by the tears of their own child. To get their old bodies back, the two will have to work together, willy-nilly. Gameplay is essentially an action-platformer with puzzles, but It Takes Two is characterized by its many creative ideas and surprising genre changes. For example, it becomes a shooter, a fighting game, and even a flight sim at times.
